What if your child could truly connect with the city they live in?
Bengaluru is often seen as traffic, technology and fast-paced living. But beneath the surface lies a rich, layered story, of lakes, communities, architecture, culture and choices that shaped the city we experience today.
The question is, do our children see it? Without a connection to the past, it becomes difficult to care about the future.
Introducing Heritage Walks.
A series of thoughtfully designed walks across Bengaluru that invite children and families to:
- Explore the city beyond the obvious
- Uncover hidden stories and histories
- Build a deeper sense of belonging
- Develop care and responsibility for their environment
These walks are filled with experiences of discovery, reflection and connection.
What makes these walks unique.
- A treasure-map experience. Curated digital treasure maps that spark curiosity and inquiry.
- Diverse city landscapes. Ancient lakes (keres), heritage markets (petes), parks, temples and historic spaces.
- See the city through new eyes. Children begin to understand how the past connects to the present through water systems, community life and urban development.
- Belonging and responsibility. Children develop pride, empathy and a sense of responsibility for their city’s future.
Where we walk.
Our heritage walks span multiple locations across Bengaluru, strategically covering Pete (markets), Kere (lakes), Durga (forts), parks and culturally significant locations:
- Nandi Durga
- Bhoganandeeshwara Temple
- Malleshwaram (community hubs & temples)
- Cubbon Park
- Halasuru Kere
- Someshwara Temple
Each location offers a unique narrative of the city’s evolution.
A child-led initiative.
What makes this initiative truly special: these walks are researched, designed and led by students of Sparkling Mindz, in consultation with the lived experiences of people in the area. Through this process, children themselves dive deep into the city’s history, ask meaningful questions, and take ownership as learners and changemakers.
More than a walk.
Participants walk through the city and slow down enough to notice more, care more, question more, and feel more connected. Because when children feel a sense of belonging, they naturally begin to take responsibility.
